How the calculation works

Nothing here is hidden. The tool applies these steps to the numbers you enter:

  1. Marketplace revenue = monthly orders × average order value.
  2. Marketplace commission = revenue × commission % + orders × other per-order charges. Annual = monthly × 12.
  3. Orders moved direct = monthly orders × share you expect to move.
  4. Commission avoided = moved orders × average order value × commission % + moved orders × other per-order charges.
  5. Cost of handling them directly = moved revenue × (direct platform commission % + payment processing %) + moved orders × delivery cost absorbed + monthly platform cost.
  6. Monthly difference = commission avoided − cost of handling directly. Annual = monthly × 12.
  7. Break-even = the number of orders that must move each month before the monthly platform cost is covered, given the per-order margin between the two channels.

What it deliberately leaves out

It does not assume new customers from the marketplace will move, it does not credit the direct channel with any growth, and it does not count the value of holding customer data. It also ignores marketplace promotions you may be paying for, which would make the marketplace side more expensive than shown. If you want to include them, add their per-order cost to "other marketplace charges".

Reading the result

A positive annual difference means the orders you expect to move would cost less to serve directly than through the marketplace, after processing, delivery and platform costs. A negative number usually means the share moving is too small to cover a fixed monthly platform cost, or the delivery subsidy per order is high. The break-even line tells you how many orders would need to move for the fixed cost to be covered.

Calculator questions

Where do I find my commission rate?

On your marketplace agreement or partner dashboard, usually described as a commission, service fee or take rate as a percentage of order value. Published tiers exist for some markets, for example DoorDash and Uber Eats in the US list delivery plans from 15% to 30% (checked October 2026). For India, reported ranges vary by source; use the rate on your own contract. Our guide on how delivery app commissions work explains the structure.

Why does the calculator not move all my orders to direct?

Because that does not happen. Marketplaces bring customers who would not otherwise find you, and some regulars will keep using the app out of habit. The share you enter should be your honest estimate of orders from people who already know you. Start with a conservative figure and revisit it after a few months with the promotion plan.

What should I put for payment processing?

Your payment gateway's rate on online payments. Published standard rates in October 2026 were 2% per domestic transaction plus GST on the fee at Razorpay in India, 2.9% + 30¢ at Stripe in the US and 1.5% + 20p at Stripe in the UK. Use the rate your provider quotes you.

Does this include delivery costs?

Only what you enter in "delivery cost you absorb per direct order". If customers pay a delivery charge that covers the trip, enter zero. If you subsidise delivery, enter the amount you absorb per order. The delivery fee calculator helps work that out.

Is the result what I will save with Tuckly?

No. It is an estimate under the assumptions you typed, using a direct platform commission of 0% by default because that is Tuckly's model. Real results depend on how many customers actually move, your gateway rate, your delivery setup and your subscription. See pricing for every cost line.
